Dear Duke. Thanks for the comment. I was fortunate that I was able to see "Tales of the City" twice. The first time was Memorial Day weekend. It turned out that all but one of the folks who took the guided walking tour that weekend with me had tickets for the Sunday night performance - which was the same performance for which my nephew and I had tickets. It was a fun evening. I saw the musical again the 4th of July weekend. I went with a close friend and, again, it was a fun evening. I have no idea of the significance of the packets of matches handed out. I do know that there were packets of souvenir condomes that were sale at the ACT. As for Broadway, check with Armistead Maupin's Facebook and/or Twitter accounts. I know I plan to make that trip when TotC opens up there! Sincerely, Larry Your Tour of the Tales Guide

Wow... wish I had your "tours" when I visited SF last time. Would have been great to explore the city that way. Right now... it makes me want to read all the books again and come back sometimes. Thanks for this website!

I grew up and have lived in Bay Area most of my life. I always thought I knew the City... but she never ceases to amaze me. We are fans of Tales of the City... and saw your tour website... We walked the tour #1 yesterday and it was great fun... I was really impressed by the detail in your tour... thank you so much for putting it together...

Well I have to tell you, we had a blast! We went to the musical on July 22nd and did a Tales walk the following day. Because Larry was not in San Francisco to lead the tour, he very generously sent the copy of the tour to me so that we could do it ourselves. Our adventure started with Armistead Maupin himself! He came through the theater turnstile just as we did! We had a very brief but very friendly conversation with him which ended with him autographing our tickets! Giddy as school girls, we then took our seats. All of us loved the play! The next was the day for our Tales walk. We started at the Buena Vista. We had our Irish coffees and we started the walk, as described in the tour. We had lots of laughs and fun along the way but by 3:00, we had only made it to page 12 of 56 pages!!! We kept walking and we even got a fly-over by 3 of the Wild Parrots of Nob Hill. We even stopped at Swensonâ??s and had a scoop of Swiss Orange Chip in a sugar coneâ?¦ heavenly!!! Although we had to cut the Official Tour short, our walk back to BART took us down Columbus , through North Beach passing or at least seeing, many of the other sites in the tour. We missed the Castro and Noe Valley parts of the tour. But both of us have spent many a day and or night in both so we didnâ??t totally miss out on it! Thanks again Larry! Maybe someday we can do the walk with you? Iâ??m sure you would add spice to it and weâ??d even finish it??!!
